| YA MUAKHKHIR (Invoking The Closer) The power to stand up against wrong is not a simple country song; it was the vision of a nation: inclusive not exclusive, based on law, not on war, & valuing humanity above social disparity. It was the vision of a nation where open opportunity means anyone can awaken to be taken in the unabating hurricane of American man. America’s a great song, a great song gone wrong. It is what it opposes: it strews its guns with roses & sells itself its promised lands the states of man it calls the world the hate it fans & stalls & furls in movies too fast to outlast that old flag’s flopping curls. It’s stars are strapped & flashing back a take away acquaintance to appease the queues complaining that this great song has gone wrong. It’s not the hill it wants to be; it’s lost in smoke from sea to sea but still cannot stop singing the old hopes it keeps bringing to run over what its done. Great song gone wrong still runs on. |
